Another supposedly leaked audio recording has emerged claiming to show that, when Mohammed Morsi was president of Egypt, the UAE gave Egypt’s defence ministry money to fund protests against him. The recording, which has not been authenticated, was aired by Islamist Istanbul-based TV channel Mekameleen, which in February aired another purporting to have captured President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi (not yet president at the time) insulting Gulf rulers. Egyptian officials say the recordings are fabrications, but many in Egypt and elsewhere take them seriously.
