UAE: Yemen role points to more assertive policy

Abu Dhabi’s more assertive role abroad has become ever more apparent via the UAE’s involvement in the Saudi-led coalition in Yemen over the summer months. The escalation of operations cost Emirati forces the lives of three active service personnel in August and two in July. UAE forces directly contributed to the retaking of Aden. Backed by US support, Emirati Oshkosh M-ATV Mine Resistant Ambush Protected vehicles and Infantry Fighting Vehicles were transported from forward operating bases in Somalia to the Yemeni coast.
