UAE: Strategic co-operation with Washington

As one element of the UAE-US strategic relationship, progress has been made in a joint initiative by the Department of State and Ministry of Foreign Affairs to counter global Islamic State (IS) communications. The recently formed Sawab Centre is establishing geographically focused units to analyse IS output, and assess the extent it has infiltrated communities in the Arabian Peninsula (notably excluding the UAE, where this role will continue to be performed by the State Security Department), Levant, North, West and East Africa, the Balkans, Caucusus, Central Asia, Indian subcontinent and south-east Asia.
