UAE: Israel uses Irena to leverage Abu Dhabi presence

Israel is to open an official presence in the UAE for the first time in more than a decade. The new mission will represent Israel at the International Renewable Energy Agency (Irena). Israeli officials sought to play down the significance. “This is not an Israeli embassy or consulate in the UAE. It is an office within Irena, which is an international organisation,” said Israeli Ministry of Foreign Affairs director-general Dore Gold, who led the effort to open the mission.
