UAE: Frontline service for UAE sheikhs

Prominent Emiratis – led by rulers’ sons – are being seen to play a prominent role in dangerous situations across the region, as war in Yemen and other conflicts serve to build a new national identity in the UAE.A son of Dubai Ruler Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum was pictured as a firefighter attending the New Year’s Eve fire at skyscraper hotel The Address Downtown. He is seen in a police video directing some operations and moving furniture with other Dubai Civil Defence officers. Sheikh Mansour also served in Yemen last autumn, as have other scions of Emirati ruling families.
