Major Mariam Al-Mansouri made the headlines for being the first female fighter pilot in the Emirati airforce when she took part in airstrikes on Syria on the night of 22-23 September. UAE ambassador to the US Yousef Al-Otaiba confirmed the F-16 pilot’s role on Morning Joe, a weekday morning chat show on US channel MSNBC. “I can officially confirm that the UAE strike mission on Monday night was led by female fighter pilot Mariam Al-Mansouri,” he said. “She is a fully qualified, highly trained, combat-ready pilot, and she is on a mission.”
