UAE: Amnesty focuses on Libyan businessman’s detention

Amnesty International has highlighted the case of dual Libyan-Canadian national Salim Al-Aradi, who the London-based advocacy group claims has been detained without charge since 29 August 2014, during which time he was tortured. Amnesty said Al-Aradi was among ten Libyan businessmen held in secret detention for several months after he was first arrested in Dubai. The arrests have been linked to the UAE authorities’ suspicions that Libyan expatriate businessmen were supporters of the Muslim Brotherhood. Four of the men were released in December and deported to Turkey, including Al-Aradi’s brother Mohammed Al-Aradi. The rest are still detained without charge.
