Ahmed Mansoor, a prominent Emirati blogger and one of the so-called UAE Five, is one of three final nominees for the 2015 Martin Ennals award for human rights defenders. Mansoor was one of five critics of the government arrested in April 2011 for insulting the leadership and threatening state security; they spent many months in jail before being pardoned by the president. Since his release, Mansoor says he has been assaulted in the street, and believes he has been under surveillance and that there has been unauthorised access of his email account.
