South Africa: Second Ingula unit synchronised

The second 333MW unit of the Ingula Pumped Storage Scheme, Unit 4, was synchronised to the national grid on 25 March. The first unit, Unit 3, was synchronised in early March. The Ingula scheme in the Drakensberg escarpment consists of the upper Bedford dam and lower Bramhoek dam, 4.6km apart and connected by waterway tunnels. An underground powerhouse holds four 333MW reversible pump turbine units.
