South Africa: Nuclear may be back in contention

South Africa’s nuclear procurement saga saw another twist after President Jacob Zuma appeared to recommit the government to procuring 9,600MW of nuclear capacity in his State of the Nation address on 13 February, although the updated Integrated Resource Plan (IRP) only closed to public comment on 7 February and is not expected to be approved by Cabinet until March. The draft IRP had suggested that a decision on new nuclear could wait until 2015 or even 2017-18, depending on the circumstances.
