South Africa: Eni farms in to Sasol block

Issue 279 - 17 Jun 2014 | 1 minute read

Eni has agreed with Sasol Petroleum International to acquire a 40% interest and operatorship in a large block off South Africa’s east coast. The Exploration Right ER236 covers 82,000km2 in the Durban and Zululand basins offshore Kwazulu-Natal Province. The Petroleum Agency of South Africa (PASA) granted the permit to Sasol in late 2013. Eni said the agreement reinforced its position on the East African coast, where it already has exploration in Mozambique and in Kenya. The farm-in forms part of wider co-operation between Sasol and Eni, mainly focused on maximising opportunities in the gas value chain.
