Eskom continues to be plagued by bad news after the resignation of chairman Zola Tsotsi on 30 March was followed by the re-emergence of labour unrest at the site of the utility’s beleaguered Medupi project. Tsotsi quit as Eskom chairman after a lengthy board meeting in which he convinced fellow directors to let him resign rather than face a vote of no confidence. Speaking to Eyewitness News, minister for public enterprises Lynne Brown welcomed the resignation as an opportunity to bring greater stability to the utility, saying that the board had raised “quite serious issues” with her about Tsotsi before the announcement and had recommended that he step down.
