South Africa: Cabinet announces plan, but little relief for Eskom

The cabinet has announced a five-point plan to tackle the deepening power crisis, but critics say the measures are not as decisive as South Africans faced with rolling blackouts might have hoped.On 11 December, the government announced that a “war room” had been set up at Eskom to implement the plan, made up of the Departments of Energy, Cooperative Governance and Traditional Affairs, Public Enterprises, National Treasury, Economic Development, Water and Sanitation and Eskom – as well as technical officials.
