Senegal: Senelec seeks EIB loan for grid expansion

The European Investment Bank (EIB) is appraising €75m of funding for a project totalling €151m to upgrade and modernise Senelec’s transmission and distribution network. The project comprises the concentration and extension of the electricity network, interconnection of isolated networks, modernisation of crucial distribution equipment and facilities, installation of 300,000 prepaid meters, installation of 15,000 smart meters for large electricity consumers, and the establishment of a modern customer-relationship management system. Part of the funds provided by the EIB will be dedicated to rural electrification and to the development of the transmission and distribution network in southern Senegal.
