Head of the Qatar Football Association (QFA) Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Bin Ahmad Al-Thani published an opinion piece in The Guardian newspaper on 20 June, defending Qatar’s win of the 2022 Fifa World Cup and insisting Doha had played by the rules. As controversy over alleged corruption in the bidding process continues, Sheikh Hamad argued that Qatar had demonstrated its suitability, including means of combatting weather so hot that the tournament may now have to be played in winter.
