Qatar: Father Emir visits US

The Father Emir Sheikh Hamad Bin Khalifa Al-Thani and his wife, Sheikha Mozah Bint Nasser Al-Misnad, were in New York in late May, and, with US President Barack Obama, attended a graduation ceremony at the US Military Academy (West Point). The former emir was photographed alongside the first Qatari to graduate from the academy with a military bachelor’s degree, Hamad Victor Nazim, following a ceremony also attended by many congressmen and senior military, civilian and diplomatic figures. Three days later, following the release of US Sergeant Bowe Bergdahl from Taliban custody in Afghanistan, Obama praised Qatar-US relations as he thanked Emir Sheikh Tamim Bin Hamad Al-Thani for his help in securing the release.
