Poland expands energy, diplomatic links

Poland will take its first ever shipment of liquefied natural gas (LNG), from Qatar, in mid-December – marking a major step forward in efforts to secure greater energy independence from Russia (see box). The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is also planning to open an embassy in Muscat, reflecting its appreciation of Oman’s political role in the region and commercial potential, and is working to diversify agricultural exports to Saudi Arabia, the UAE and other markets. However, the timing of the embassy opening has still to be finalised as the new conservative government of Prime Minister Beata Szydlo beds into office.
