- 08 Apr 2014
| 2 minute read
Oman has not been able to remain entirely distant from the brouhaha in the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), repeatedly signalling its distaste for plans to further tighten the union. While it has kept on the sidelines of the tussle between Qatar and Saudi Arabia, the UAE and Bahrain, Muscat has also been looking across the Gulf to Iran, something which could have ramifications for its future in the GCC. Oman relies on GCC funding for major projects such as the national rail system, which will cost some OR5bn ($13bn).
