Nigeria: Nerc backs Geometric’s licence

The Nigerian Electricity Regulatory Commission (Nerc) and Bureau of Public Enterprises have both backed Geometric Power’s rights to distribute electricity from its 200MW Aba embedded power plant within the Aba and Ariaria districts of Abia State, following months of legal wrangling and numerous lawsuits between the Nigerian power developer and Enugu Electricity Distribution Company (disco) owner Interstate Electrics.Interstate, which won the right to purchase Enugu disco in 2013, claimed that it owned exclusive rights to supply within its distribution boundaries, and that, despite owning a 20-year embedded generation licence since 2005, Geometric had no rights to supply electricity locally.
