Namibia: Repsol drillship arrives

Issue 273 - 17 Mar 2014 | 1 minute read

Repsol plans to start drilling the Welwitschia well in the Walvis Basin in April, after taking delivery of the Rowan Renaissance newbuild drillship, which arrived in Walvis Bay on 4 March. Partner Tower Resources said Repsol would carry out preparation and final acceptance testing on the drillship, which has been hired on a three-year contract. The well is expected to be drilled to a total depth of 3,000 metres to target Maastrichtian and Aptian-Albian reservoir sequences. Well operations are now scheduled to start on or around 11 April, with drilling to start about a week later.
