Shortfalls in meeting demand in the Central-Northern region due to long delays in installing more sustainable generation capacity mean Electricidade de Moçambique (EDM) is in the market for more diesel power generation. According to EDM executive board member Isaias Vasco Rabeca, “load-shedding during peak load time is already inevitable particularly in the Northern region”.To counter this, “there is urgent need for diesel power generation to avoid load-shedding and boost the voltage in the Central-Northern region, and radial transmission lines and emergency supply in case of failure”, Rabeca told the Africa Energy Forum in Dubai in June.
