King Salman cut short his three-week holiday in the south of France after only eight days in early August and decamped to Morocco, where he stayed for the rest of the month. Among his entourage were several low-profile sons of the late King Saud, his sons Khalid (who has a military aviation background) and Nayef and Rakan (two of his youngest), finance minister Ibrahim Al-Assaf and information minister Adel Al-Toraifi. On 20 August, the king received at his Tangier residence the Dubai ruler and UAE Prime Minister Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al-Maktoum and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Al-Nahyan.
