Kenya: China’s CMEC to build Kipeto wind farm

China Machinery Engineering Corporation (CMEC) has signed a deal worth $221m to become the engineering, procurement and construction contractor for the 102MW Kipeto wind farm, Kipeto Energy Ltd has confirmed to African Energy. Construction is expected to take 22 months and will begin once the project has reached financial close. Kipeto will comprise 60 General Electric (GE) 1.7-103 turbines, supplied as part of a $155m deal signed in July 2015 under which GE will also become the operations and maintenance contractor for a 15-year period.
