Kenya: AfDB loan for electrification project

Issue 290 - 04 Dec 2014 | 1 minute read

The African Development Bank (AfDB) board has approved a $133m loan to support the Last Mile Connectivity Project (LMCP), which aims to increase access to electricity, particularly in rural areas. The total cost of the project is expected to be $147m; the Kenyan government will cover the $14m difference. LMCP intends to maximise the use of Kenya Power’s existing distribution transformers by extending low-voltage networks to areas close to the transformers, and is part of the government’s Energy Access Scale-Up Programme.
