Iraq: Third US soldier dies in IS campaign

Issue 1014 - 07 May 2016 | 1 minute read

A US Navy Seal was killed on 2 May near Telskuf in northern Iraq, becoming the third US combat death in the campaign against Islamic State (IS or Daesh). US Central Command said the military adviser – later named as Charles Keating IV – was killed in Iraqi Kurdistan as a result of “enemy fire”. IS fighters had penetrated the Peshmerga front line about 20 miles north of Mosul; the service member was killed about two to three miles from the front lines, when Daesh attacked using truck bombs and infantry forces.
