Ghana: South Korea supports grid enhancements

Issue 300 - 15 May 2015 | 1 minute read

On 7 April, Ghana Grid Company (GridCo) signed an agreement with a consortium of South Korea’s Samsung C&T and GS E&C to build a 185km, 330kV transmission line from Prestea to Kumasi in the Ashanti region. The project is part of a planned 330kV transmission network running from the Aboadze thermal power plant in the south to Bolgatanga in the north. The $67m Prestea-Kumasi power enhancement project will be financed with a concessional loan from the Export-Import Bank of Korea. Work is expected to be completed by the end of Q1 2017.
