Eight African countries to sign International Energy Charter

At least eight African countries are set to sign the International Energy Charter (IEC) which will be adopted at a ministerial conference on 20 May in The Hague. Energy Charter secretary-general Urban Rusnak told a news conference on 4 May in Brussels that Burundi, Chad, Mauritania, Namibia, Niger, Swaziland, Tanzania and Uganda had already committed to signing up, and the secretariat was also working with Botswana, Gambia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda and Zambia, who should follow at a later stage.
