Bustard hunting permits

Issue 982 - 27 Nov 2014 | 2 minute read

The Pakistan government has again bestowed controversial special permits to favoured Gulf royals, to allow them to hunt the internationally protected Houbara bustards in the 2014-15 season, despite having said there would be a moratorium for a year to replenish stocks of the bird. According to a list published by Dawn newspaper (which regularly carries detailed reports on the outcry over the sport) on 16 November, 29 individuals received permits for the upcoming season, slightly less than in 2013-14.
