Burkina Faso: ADFD backs Samandeni dam

Issue 174 - 13 Nov 2009 | 1 minute read

The Abu Dhabi Fund for Development (ADFD) has signed a $10m loan agreement to finance construction of the Samandeni dam on the Mohan River in Deforma province. The dam, which will be Burkina Faso’s third largest after Bagre and Ziga, is part of the SamandeniValley Integrated Hydro-Agricultural Project, which also involves the installation of a 168MW hydroelectric plant (HEP). The Samandeni Valley project, devised in 1998, will initially involve the preparation of 15,000ha of land for agriculture, followed by the irrigation of a further 21,000ha and installation of the HEP.
