Tunisia: Zaafrane well declared a find

Issue 300 - 15 May 2015 | 1 minute read

Operator Mazarine Energy has announced an oil discovery with the Chouchet El Atrous-1 (Cat-1) well in the Zaafrane permit in central Tunisia. The well was drilled by Compagnie Tunisienne de Forage to a total depth of 3,950 metres and flowed at a rate of 4,300 b/d of crude and 395,000 m3/d of natural gas (constrained by surface facilities) during a production test in April. Cat-1 is the first in a two-well drilling campaign on the licence, where the Netherlands-based company is partnered by Entreprise Tunisienne d’Activités Pétrolières and Medex. Executive chairman Edward van Kersbergen said Mazarine Energy looked forward to “the fast-track development of this discovery”.
