Issue 292 - 16 Jan 2015 | 1 minute read

Norway is to provide technical and financial assistance to revive the Kikuletwa hydropower station, in Hai district, Kilimanjaro region, The Citizen newspaper reported. Norway is providing a NKr29m ($3.8m) grant for project preparation. The 1.5MW capacity Kikuletwa facility was originally built by German missionaries in the 1930s and upgraded in the 1950s; it stopped operation in 1984. State utility Tanzania Electric Supply Company last year handed the facility over to Arusha Technical College, which is planning to set up a hydroelectric training centre and rebuild the power station.
