Qatar: Credit for Sudan

Issue 976 - 05 Sep 2014 | 1 minute read

Qatar has given Sudan $1.25bn in credit guarantees, according to the Sudan Tribune. On 13 August, the paper quoted Central Bank of Sudan governor Abdel-Rahman Hassan as saying Doha had made the arrangement following President Omar Al-Bashir’s latest visit to Qatar, in July. The agreement will reportedly see Qatar Central Bank providing Sudan with $500m in credit guarantees to import Qatari products, while Qatar National Bank will offer $750m in credit lines to improve Sudan’s financial position and stabilise the exchange rate of the Sudanese pound.
