Chicago-based Millhouse Engineering & Construction has signed a memorandum of understanding with the Nigerian government for a series of mini coal power plants intended to be brought on line over the next five years. The company intends to mine high-quality coal from a 20,000-acre prospect in Enugu, using the coal to power up to 100 plants of 5MW each. In a press release, the company said that the mini plant structure is expected to substantially reduce costs, which it said could be up to $1.5bn for a standard coal power plant on that scale. Millhouse is an African-American owned engineering firm founded in 2001 and based in Chicago.
